Matt Emery
Position: Public Relations Director
Location: Washington, DC
Musical Background: My exposure to musical performance began with seven years of piano
lessons, two years of tenor saxophone, and a short stint of high school musical theater. I sang in the
Duke University Chorale for my first two
years of college, along with the co-ed a cappella group Rhythm & Blue for three and a half years. During my time with RnB, I arranged
over fifteen songs and was honored to have three of my arrangements chosen for national compilation
albums. I served as musical director during my junior and senior years and led the group to back-to-back
BOCA appearances (2007 & 2008). We also received four CARA nominations and two Runner-Up awards,
including one for my arrangement of "Such Great Heights" in 2007. For the time being,
however, my only outlets for singing are karaoke, the shower, and Sunday mornings at church... though
I do those quite a bit!
Personal Information: I work as a Postbaccalaureate fellow at the
NIMH, using MRI
technology to investigate cognitive and structural brain changes in mental health disorders.
I graduated in 2007 with degrees in Biology and Slavic Langauges & Literature. My favorite Russian
works are Bulgakov's Master and Margarita and Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment.
Aside from singing, I enjoy soccer, snowboarding, volunteer work, all kinds of food, and watching House
and The Office.
