James Wallace
Position: Treasurer
Location: Raleigh, NC
Musical Background: I began my involvement with contemporary a cappella in high school
and continued with the Grains of Time at N.C. State
University (and to those who already know me, I was originally accepted for my voice and not for
spitting). I served as President and Vocal Percussionist of the group for three years. During my time
in the Grains, the group instituted the use of vocal percussion for the first time, won several local
competitions, and produced two full-length albums, one of which was the group's first completely live
album. In 2006, I also received an "Outstanding Vocal Percussion" award when the Grains
competed in the ICCAs. In 2005 I founded the vocal band transit. Since the group's founding, we have received two CARA Runner-Up honors
and taken home two CARA awards for our debut, eponymous album. As a member of transit, I have had the
pleasure of performing and conducting workshops and clinics up and down the East coast. I have been a
member of the AACI for three years and have served as Secretary, Treasurer, SoJam Administrative
Coordinator, and one of several SoJam Producers.
Personal Information: I graduated from N.C. State University with degrees in History
and Spanish in 2006 and am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Latin American Literature and
Culture. I am a HUGE Star Wars dork (and yes, that means I think George Lucas really messed up with
the prequels).
