Thomas King
Position: Recruitment Director
Location: Durham, NC
Musical Background: I have been actively involved in the a cappella world since 1990.
I sang with the collegiate groups His-N-Hers and
Tar Heel Voices at the UNC-Chapel Hill and with the semi-pro groups The Accidentals [of North
Carolina] and hearsay during my graduate school years. I am currently in a group called the Seven
Deadly Bibs (7db in the nomenclature). I was one of the first "ambassadors" for CASA the
Contemporary A Cappella Society (formerly of America) back in the early '90s. I was the Associate
Editor of the Contemporary
A Cappella News magazine for more than a decade. I have been involved with the
ICCAs since 1996. The early years
were spent as a coach and emcee; eventually, I became a regional producer for the South in 1998 until
the Spring of 2004. I have sung in church choirs and on Broadway, music-directed umpteen shows, and was
a Marchin' Tar Heel in college. For some reason, though, I do not have a music degree.
Personal Information: I am a native North Carolinian, a devout Aquarian and a lover
of all things purple. I have served on the Royal Court for the
Crape Myrtle Festival, as president of
the Triangle Gay Men's
Chorus. I am one of the founders and the Co-Artistic Director of
New Traditions Theatre. My
company won several "best of" categories in the Independent Weekly's Best of Theater
2007 for our inaugural production of The America Play.
